In real life, in a relationship, I don't know how often, if at all, the topic comes up.
I've never been asked and I've never asked.
I think the only time it becomes a concern is if you find out the person you're seeing may have been a player and slept around and thus has a high chance of carrying STDs.

I asked my wife after we got married and wished I hadn't, or wished I had asked her before marriage. She also lied or refrained from full disclosure about her STD which she will have for the rest of her life. I married a ho thinking she was a nun. My bad. Should have known when she dropped to her knees and deep throat ed me at the end of our first date. I certainly did not expect a blow job. She seemed to think it was payment for taking her out on a date.
